In addition to his active business and family law litigation practice, and
acting as a mediator in business and consumer disputes, Tom Carnes has
expertise, largely gained through the education offered through litigation, to
assist individuals and businesses in other ways. For example, Tom has litigated
covenants not to compete and trade secret disputes on behalf of employers and
employees since 1996. Through that experience, Tom has learned how and how not
to draft covenants not to compete and employment agreements. This has been a
continuing part of his practice for many years.
Through his own experience, Tom Carnes has learned about gifting programs and
wealth transfers, as well as business succession strategies. He provides counsel
and advice to clients in these areas as well.
Lastly, Tom, like most lawyers, drafts simple wills and instruments for his
clients, although this has never been a large part of his practice.
In short, life and litigation have taught Tom a thing or two, and he is
regularly engaged by clients outside of litigation to share what he has learned.
